Welcome to bookstarved. I've been reading my head off for the past 32 years and have a compulsive need to discuss my hobby. I'm no book snob. I'll read anything that's placed in front of me. I do have my favorites, though, and you'll be getting an earful about that. I tend to lean toward highly dysfunctional family tales and anything involving dark humor. I also enjoy young adult and children's books. Most of all, I like a good recommendation, so if you're reading this, please do share any favorites with me and I'll be happy to reciprocate.
Darcy, this is amazing, I'm so thrilled you are pulling this together for everyone, THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteHave you read, "Loving Frank" by Nancy Horan? I finished it last night and was balling by the end which doesn't happen easily(Frank as in Frank Lloyd Wright).
"Drinking, A Love Story" is another one I couldn't put down. Caroline Knapp is a phenomenal writer and her journey towards sobriety and the warning signs will send chills.
Next up is "To Kill a Mockingbird", I can't wait! I'm excited to read some of your favorites too, nothing like a recommendation from a whipper snapper like you!
xoxo
I'm so jealous you're reading To Kill a Mockingbird. I may have to go back and read that. That's one of my all time favorites. Do you remember spending a new year's eve with your dad and he had us stay up late and watch that movie? Loved it. I did enjoy Loving Frank. Anything from that time period fascinates me. I didn't read 'Drinking, A Love Story'. I'll put that on my to-do list. I hope you're well. Any more thoughts on an NYC relocation?

And last summer I was on a Hunter S. Thompson kick. Over the winter it was Tom Wolfe.
One of my all time favorites is Steinbeck's East of Eden, but I already know you've read that one because I've seen it many a time on your bookshelf ;-)
So excited for this blog!!!!! xoxo
just read sense and sensibility again. Love it more and it becomes funnier every time. I loved the Help and have enjoyed the Steig Larrson books. I wanted to post a "like" to Sean's book about your adventures in Amsterdam but couldn't figure it out (I'm a nimrod). I actually tackled Pat
ReplyDeleteConroy's "Beach Music" which was laborious but a good story. I usually stay away from that much dysfunction! I'm dying for something new...I have, but have not read "A red tent" - do you know anything about that one? Oh - this is going to be fun! Before I forget - I always love to read A prayer for Owen Meaney. That is one interesting and funny character.
